The Subsidy, Explained

How the ₹78,000 PM Surya Ghar subsidy is calculated.

The Central Financial Assistance is tiered per kilowatt of installed capacity, with a hard cap at 3 kW. Everything above that — you pay full price, but the panels keep earning for 25 years.

1st kW
₹30,000

30,000/kW for the first kilowatt

2nd kW
₹30,000

30,000/kW for the second kilowatt

3rd kW
₹18,000

18,000/kW for the third kilowatt

Maximum Central Subsidy
₹78,000

Hard cap for any system 3 kW and above. Subsidy is credited directly to your bank account via DBT once installation is verified by your DISCOM — usually within 30–45 days.

Direct Bank Transfer

Subsidy hits your account — no middlemen, no commission.

300 Free Units / Month

Net-metering credits up to 300 units monthly for residential users.

Loans up to ₹2 Lakh

Collateral-free PSU bank loans at ~7% to cover your share.

From Enquiry to Subsidy

Four steps. We do all the heavy lifting.

/ 01

Free site survey

Our engineer visits your home, measures roof area, checks shading and your sanctioned load — at no cost.

/ 02

Design + DISCOM paperwork

We design the system, file your PM Surya Ghar application and submit the DISCOM net-metering paperwork.

/ 03

Installation in 7–10 days

MNRE-approved panels and inverter installed on hot-dip galvanised structures, commissioned by certified engineers.

/ 04

Subsidy in your bank

DBT subsidy hits your bank account within 30–45 days of commissioning. Net-meter starts crediting surplus units immediately.

Worked Example

A 3 kW system pays for itself in under 2.5 years.

Here's how the math works for a typical household paying ₹4,000 a month. After subsidy, your effective cost-per-kW drops to ₹39,000 — and the panels keep generating for 25 years.

  • 25-year panel performance warranty
  • 10-year inverter warranty
  • 5-year free O&M from Kamala Power
  • Surplus units credited via net metering
Scenario
Family of 4 · ₹4,000/month bill
System size3 kW rooftop solar
Average monthly bill (before)₹4,000
System price (turnkey, MNRE-spec)₹1,95,000
Less: PM Surya Ghar subsidy− ₹78,000
Your net investment₹1,17,000
Year-1 electricity savings₹48,000
Simple payback period2.4 years
25-year lifetime savings₹14,40,000
Indicative. Actual figures depend on roof orientation, shading, panel choice and DISCOM tariff.

Everything you need to know about PM Surya Ghar.

Any Indian homeowner with a valid electricity connection in their name, a structurally sound rooftop, and willingness to install a grid-connected solar system is eligible. The subsidy is for residential consumers only — not for commercial, industrial or institutional use. Kamala Power handles the eligibility check and the entire application on your behalf.
The Central Financial Assistance is tiered: ₹30,000 for the first kilowatt, ₹30,000 for the second kilowatt, and ₹18,000 for the third kilowatt. That adds up to ₹78,000 for a 3 kW system. Systems above 3 kW still receive the same ₹78,000 cap — there is no additional subsidy beyond that capacity.
Subsidy is credited via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) into the bank account you registered on the National Portal. Disbursement happens after installation, inspection by your DISCOM, and net-meter commissioning. In most states, this takes 30 to 45 days from the date of commissioning.
Surplus solar power flows back into the grid through a bi-directional net meter, and your DISCOM credits up to 300 free units per month against your bill. Any units beyond that are settled at the state-notified tariff at the end of the billing year. You effectively get a zero-bill household for most of the year.
No. Most of our customers either pay the post-subsidy amount upfront (about ₹65,000–₹1,17,000 for a 1–3 kW system) or use a collateral-free PSU bank loan of up to ₹2 lakh at around 7% interest, which we help arrange. EMIs are typically lower than the electricity savings, so the system pays for itself from day one.
We install MNRE-approved Tier-1 panels with IEC 61215 mechanical-load and IEC 61730 safety certification — rated for wind speeds up to 200 km/h and hailstones up to 25 mm. The mounting structures are hot-dip galvanised and engineered to local wind-zone codes. Panels also come with a 25-year performance warranty and a 10–12 year product warranty.
From your enquiry to a fully commissioned system, the typical timeline is 21 to 30 days. That covers site survey (Day 1–2), DISCOM application (Day 3–7), structure fabrication and installation (Day 8–15), and net-meter commissioning (Day 16–30). The physical rooftop work itself takes 7 to 10 working days.
Yes — end-to-end. We register your project on the National Portal, submit the DISCOM feasibility application, coordinate the inspection, apply for the net meter, and follow up with the DBT subsidy claim. You sign a few forms; we handle the rest.
